Summer, Summer, Summer Time! Oh yes. The best part of the year for parents who can confidently say, “Go play in the yard.”, while making a full blown meal on the patio.
Supervision provided while making a masterpiece meal like a backyard seafood boil, barbecue pork and goat cheese pizza or even Moroccan grilled chicken to name a few. Keeping one eye on the grill and the other one on the kids is key. The best part is the little time in between checking on the grill. It’s the golden moments where you can take in the sun and the beautiful surroundings.
Picture it, birds are chirping as the sun is beaming down casting a wonderful glow on the bountiful plants that surrounds this outdoor kitchen oasis. Sure you have to contend with a couple of slight interruptions that usually start with, “Mom…..”, but it is all worth it.
Not only can you complete a good parenting deed for the day by limiting screen time and having them take in some fresh air, but exploration is great for developing young minds. I must have read that some where so yes, gold star for me today.
I try to make the most of my grilling time. Not only for the main course, but for appetizers, desserts and now beverages. If the grill is hot, nothing is off limits these days. Efficiency is at it’s best! While the grill is getting heated up you can easily prep the ingredients to grill prior to putting on the main course. By the time the main course is cooked, the puree is cooled enough to enjoy with the meal or dessert.
Personally I like to enjoy mine during afternoon nap time while contemplating the next adulting thing I need to tackle. This weekend it was unfreeze the drain in the refrigerator which is one of those tasks that everyone needs to do but really would rather spend time doing something else.
The other optimum time is gathering with friends on the deck in the evening as the sun dips low and the kids are all in bed or getting ready for bed. It is just Hubby and I as we sit outside to take in the silence of the night after a full day of activity.
Which ever way you want to enjoy it, make sure you are soaking in all the sunshine that Summer has to offer. Busy days and relaxing evenings call for enjoying the outdoors. Even if it is just your own back yard and in between flipping burgers on the grill.
The drink of this summer is here for you to enjoy!
